John Perez Sr. purchased this vehicle back in 2005 as a project build, not only as a car enthusiast, but it was also a platform used to build a stronger relationship with his son, John Perez Jr.. Perez Sr. found this car for sale in an Auto Trader booklet from someone that was deploying to the Air Force. The 1994 Mazda RX-7 was bone stock when they got it. From there, they researched on the availability, pros and cons of different parts. The first setup that the car went through was everything under the hood - polished with HKS twin RS intake along with Greddy FMIC & Koyo Radiator. Next, the suspension, carbon diffuser and Volk GTC wheels were added along with RE Amemiya front bumper & sideskirts. A day before they were going to put the car away for the winter, Perez Sr. blew the automatic transmission and the stock twin turbo leaked oil into the intercooler piping.

With the car in the shop, the second setup of the build was to swap the transmission to a 5-speed manual gearbox from a 1995 Mazda R1 RX-7. In favor of the twin turbo, they decided to go with a Greddy T78 setup. With that kind of power, they found out what was weak and what needed to be upgraded/changed. Soon after the new power, Perez Sr. completely destroyed the rear end! So, they went with Choromoly axles, 4.33 gears, Greddy diff cover and a Carbonetics LSD. After all the hard labor was done, they decided to paint the RX-7 Fiji blue pearl. The interior also went through a complete makeover - a set of Bride Gradation seats, Takata harnesses, carbon fiber dash/door kit, full MOMO accents and a custom stereo install.

After 2 years with this setup, along with some spirited driving and continued long-hauls to different shows in the east coast, the motor gave in. This couldn't have happened at a better time - 1 day before a big show in Ocean City, MD!

The final setup is what they have now - a massive 815RWHP rotary, powered by a Garrett GT42R, RXparts custom manifold and all new ProEFI Complete ECU! The mastermind behind tuning the semi peripheral port/bridge port 13B is Ray Wilson from PF Supercars. He deserves all the credit to get this RX-7 past the 800HP milestone and running it so smooth!

Perez Jr. and Perez Sr. are extremely blessed and humbled to have made it this far in the car world. To travel to car shows and meet other enthusiasts are what makes this rocky road worth it!
