Maxime Jasmin: 2007 Mazda RX-8 GT

    Maxime Jasmin's friends were starting to do some lapping and he wanted to give a try. "I was shopping for a car and stopped on the 2007 Mazda RX-8," mentions Jasmin. "The handling got my attention and I liked the special engine." He started lapping, then installed all the bolt-ons for the stock RX-8, and at the end of the summer he blew the engine. "I had it replaced under warranty and I was discussing with some guys in my local RX club about how to make more power with a vehicle, and I didn't want to go turbo on the Renesis," remembers Jasmin. "One guy told me about swapping the FD engine in the RX-8," he states. Jasmin has seen photos of swapped cars but he never thought it was doable - only magazine stuff. "We continued to chat and the idea was stuck in my mind."

Jasmin started to do his homework on the FD engine swap, saw what was needed and what was implicated to do the swap, and at some point, he saw it he could make a dream into reality. "I started to do my spec sheet and some parts shopping," he mentions.

Derwin Tuning built the engine for Jasmin's RX-8, in addition to the custom fabrication. "I supplied all the parts," Jasmin states. Derwin Tuning got it running after a couple months, and it was the start of a new era for Jasmin's Mazda RX-8.

Many people helped Jasmin with the setup and build along the way. Inspiration behind the build, "came mostly from my head," he mentions. "I learned to tune my ECU and cars because of this thing, and I feel accomplished to make this car move on its own."
