Jonathan Martinez was always around cars ever since he was a kid. "My father would take me to car shows," mentions Martinez, "but I wasn't really involved until I had my first car, a 2004 Toyota Matrix." In addition to learning to drive manual on the car, Martinez also learned to modify and customize it. The Matrix taught him the right and wrong (ways) to modify a car. Martinez purchased a 2013 Scion FR-S at a Subaru dealership in 2014 and has modified it to make it his own. "I personally want to be different from the next FR-S that's on the street," he mentions, "also, I just love modifying cars!"
"They are a blank canvas and you are the painter."
The FR-S was built with the help of his friends, and about 90% of the work was done in a friend's garage. His friends inspire him, along with other enthusiasts that modify (their) builds to be functional. "I wanted the whole car to serve a purpose," states Martinez, "where it can tear-up a race track or hard-park at a show." One major aspect aside from functionality was to be different. The FR-S is a common car to modify and it's near impossible to be original. "I didn't want to go the 3-piece wheels route, or even add air suspension," states Martinez. "Let's not forget about Rocket Bunny either." He wants to build a car using uncommon parts that were mostly from Japan.
The build is still not close to being done, but Martinez knows it's going to take a long time to get it perfect.
